The garment exists before the fabric does. In CLO3D a flat pattern is stitched onto a digital avatar and simulated with real cloth physics, weight, drape, stretch, so a designer can judge fit and movement on screen, revise in minutes, and export a production-ready pattern. For a small studio it collapses the sample-and-ship-back cycle that used to eat weeks and yards of cloth.
Style3D
Style3D pushes the digital sample further, pairing cloth simulation with AI that turns a text prompt or a reference photo into a tileable fabric texture. The pitch is a design-to-digital-sample pipeline: dress an avatar, restyle the material, and hand a buyer a photoreal render, all before anyone commits to a physical prototype.
Browzwear (VStitcher)
The other pillar of true-to-life 3D apparel, widely used to build “digital twins” of garments that carry real fabric data. Its value is decision-making: fit teams and merchandisers can review, adjust, and sign off on a style from one shared 3D model long before a sample crosses an ocean.
SDS-ONE APEX
The design brain behind WHOLEGARMENT knitting: a sweater is programmed as data and knit in a single seamless piece, with essentially no offcut waste. It reframes a knit as software, editable, repeatable, and producible on demand rather than in bulk, which is why it keeps surfacing in conversations about local, low-waste manufacturing.
Generative Moodboards
Image models have compressed the moodboard-to-concept loop from days of scavenging to minutes of prompting. Used well they are an ideation instrument, fast exploration of silhouette, palette, and mood, best treated as a starting sketch a designer interprets, not a finished look to lift wholesale.

Parametric knitting treats a garment as a set of rules instead of a fixed pattern. Change a body measurement or a tension value and the whole piece regenerates, so one design can flex across many bodies and the knit itself can respond to where a wearer needs stretch, structure, or breathability. It is craft rewritten as a living formula.
Generative Draping
Instead of pinning muslin by hand, a designer sets constraints, anchor points, fabric weight, gravity, and lets simulation search for a form. The software surfaces folds and volumes that might take dozens of physical toiles to discover, turning draping into a fast conversation between intention and happy accident.
AI-Assisted Grading
Grading, scaling a base pattern across sizes, has always been slow, technical, and where inclusive ranges quietly die. Models can now propose a full size run from a single sample and flag fit breakdowns early, making a genuinely extended range a lighter lift instead of a proportional cost.
3D Body Scanning
A phone camera or a booth becomes a precise set of measurements. Fed into made-to-measure workflows and paired with parametric patterns, body scanning points toward garments cut to a specific person at close to ready-to-wear speed, and quietly attacks the return rates that drain small brands.
Digital-Only Garments
Some pieces never get sewn. They live as 3D files, AR try-ons, and runway renders, worn in images and video, tested against a real audience, and only produced physically if demand shows up. It is a low-waste way to prototype a collection in public and let interest, not a factory minimum, decide what gets made.
